THE X PRESIDENT - BOOK COVER CONCEPT
A book cover designed for the 2003 historic sci-fi book by Philip Baruth.
This book cover uses various different elements to create the image of a clock. The human figure enclosing the clock represents the repetition of time. The shape of the figure and the way the shadow tapers off is meant to give the image implied counter-clockwise motion. The book's title, particularly the "X" part is meant to represent the hands of a clock, with two of its legs being shorter.
COVER SKETCHES
My original ideas were a little bit more literal and representational and in the end I felt like they were a bit uninteresting as a result, so I decided to take a more abstract and graphical approach to the cover. Some of my ideas were also too typical of time travel sci-fi stories. I wanted a clock to be the main focus of the cover as this is a time travel story.
